What Is Telehealth Therapy?

Telehealth therapy is mental health care delivered via secure video rather than in-person. At Oasis Counseling Solutions, telehealth is not a reduced version of therapy — it is the same clinical work, the same therapists, and the same quality of care delivered through a different medium. A substantial body of research, including hundreds of randomized controlled trials, demonstrates that telehealth produces outcomes equivalent to in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and most other conditions treated in outpatient mental health settings.

All six therapists at Oasis Counseling Solutions are licensed to practice in the State of Ohio and offer telehealth sessions for clients across the entire state. All 11 services are available via telehealth, including EMDR, which is adapted using bilateral tapping or auditory cues rather than in-person hand movements. The platform used is HIPAA-compliant and requires no special software. Before each session, clients receive a secure link to click — that is the entire technical requirement.

Telehealth sessions are 45 to 60 minutes, the same length as in-person sessions. The self-pay rate is the same as in-person: $145 per session. Most insurance plans cover telehealth at parity with in-person coverage. The free 15-minute consultation can be conducted by phone or video — whatever is most convenient for the prospective client.

Who Benefits from Telehealth Therapy?

Telehealth is appropriate for most clients and most clinical presentations. These are the situations where telehealth is particularly well-suited.

  • Clients outside Strongsville, Lakewood, and Chagrin Falls — anyone in Ohio can access all six therapists via telehealth
  • Demanding schedules — telehealth eliminates commute time and makes it easier to attend consistently
  • Social anxiety — starting therapy from a familiar, comfortable environment lowers the barrier to first contact
  • Mobility limitations, chronic illness, or disability — telehealth removes access barriers entirely
  • College students and young adults — flexible, accessible from wherever they are living
  • Clients who focus better at home — particularly ADHD clients who find familiar environments easier to regulate in
  • Parents with childcare constraints — telehealth during a child's nap or school hours is accessible in ways an office visit is not

How Telehealth Therapy Works at Oasis

The process of starting telehealth therapy at Oasis Counseling Solutions is identical to starting in-person therapy. You contact us, complete a free 15-minute consultation by phone or video, get matched with the right therapist, and schedule your first session. The only difference is where the session takes place.

Book Your Free Consultation

Call us at (216) 200-8811 or book online. Your consultation can be by phone or video — your choice. We gather information about what you are looking for and match you with the right therapist based on your needs and goals.

Receive Your Secure Session Link

Before your first appointment, you receive a secure HIPAA-compliant video link via email. No app download required. The link opens in any modern web browser on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Click the link, allow camera and microphone access, and you are in your session.

Find a Private Space

Choose a private space where you will not be interrupted for 45 to 60 minutes. This might be a bedroom, a home office, a parked car, or anywhere else where you have privacy and a stable internet connection. You do not need to be at a desk — many clients attend from a comfortable chair or sofa.

The Session Proceeds Like Any Other

Your telehealth session follows the same structure as an in-person session. Your therapist conducts the same clinical work through the same modalities — including EMDR, which is adapted for telehealth using tapping or auditory bilateral stimulation. The session ends at the scheduled time with any closure, homework, or next steps discussed.

Telehealth Therapy Available Across All of Ohio

Oasis Counseling Solutions therapists are licensed to practice in the State of Ohio and can deliver telehealth therapy to any client residing within the state, regardless of their proximity to our Strongsville or Lakewood offices. Distance is irrelevant for telehealth.

Clients in Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron, Cleveland, Youngstown, and Dayton routinely work with Oasis therapists via telehealth. The same applies to clients in smaller cities and rural communities across Ohio — including clients in communities where access to specialized mental health services like EMDR, somatic therapy, and IFS-trained clinicians is limited or unavailable locally.

If you are in Ohio and looking for a therapist, the geographic question is simply: is there an Oasis therapist whose clinical specialties and approach are a good match for you? If the answer is yes, location is not an obstacle. Meet all six therapists to see their specialties and find your match.

Have an in-person office near you? Our Strongsville office serves southwest Cuyahoga County, including Parma, Middleburg Heights, Berea, Broadview Heights, and North Royalton. Our Lakewood office serves the West Side of Cleveland and inner-ring west suburbs including Rocky River, Westlake, and Fairview Park.

Frequently Asked Questions About Telehealth Therapy

Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes. A substantial body of research — including hundreds of randomized controlled trials — demonstrates that telehealth therapy produces outcomes equivalent to in-person therapy for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and most other conditions treated in outpatient mental health settings. The therapeutic relationship, which is the strongest single predictor of good outcomes, translates effectively to video sessions. At Oasis Counseling Solutions, telehealth is the same clinical work with the same therapists — not a reduced service.

What do I need for a telehealth session?

You need a smartphone, tablet, or laptop with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a private space where you will not be interrupted for 45 to 60 minutes. No special software or app download is required. Before each session you receive a secure link to click. Most clients are connected and in session within a minute of their appointment time. A pair of headphones or earbuds can help with audio quality and privacy.

Is telehealth therapy covered by insurance?

Yes. Most major insurance plans cover telehealth therapy at the same rate as in-person sessions. Oasis Counseling Solutions accepts Medicaid, Medicare, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna / Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare, CareSource, Buckeye, Medical Mutual, Humana, and over 20 additional plans. Contact us or visit our insurance and fees page to verify your specific telehealth coverage before your first session.

Can I do EMDR therapy via telehealth?

Yes. EMDR is adapted effectively for telehealth using alternative bilateral stimulation techniques such as tapping or auditory cues rather than in-person hand movements. Both Mondie Gonzales (EMDRIA certified) and Emily Davis (EMDR in training) offer telehealth EMDR sessions. Research supports the effectiveness of remote EMDR. The full eight-phase protocol is followed, and every telehealth EMDR session ends with the same structured closure exercise as an in-person session. Learn more about EMDR at Oasis.

Do I have to live near Strongsville or Lakewood to access telehealth?

No. Telehealth at Oasis Counseling Solutions is available to anyone residing anywhere in the State of Ohio. Clients in Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron, Youngstown, Dayton, and every other Ohio community can access all six therapists via telehealth. Distance from our offices is entirely irrelevant. If you are in Ohio and the clinical fit is right, you can start telehealth therapy with an Oasis therapist. Contact us to get started.
